What changed

1. 2026-10-26 Freshness sweep against one.google.com/about/plans: prices hold. Google AI Pro is $19.99 ("expanded access"). AI Plus is $4.99 for the 400 GB version, and the plans page now shows a 2 TB AI Plus at $9.99 with the same Notebook access, so we noted both. Ultra tiers renamed Ultra 5x ($99.99) and Ultra 20x ($199.99), matching the Oct 23 Veo check. Google's plan pages call the product Gemini Notebook, the name used since the July rename. We found no new features announced since the September study tools.
2. 2026-10-03 Freshness sweep: pricing tiers and the Sept 2 compute-based limits are unchanged. New since our last check: notebooks now sync with a Notebooks space in the Gemini app (rollout from Sept 14). Google's September study update added real-time voice conversations with a notebook (Ultra first), a mobile audio recorder, interactive Learning Overviews and short ~60-second Video Overviews. Google is also giving US college students 12 months of Google AI Pro free, redeemable through Dec 31, 2026. No verdict change.
3. 2026-09-14 Real change: as of September 2, 2026, Gemini Notebook replaced its old flat daily-prompt limits with a compute-based model — usage now factors prompt complexity, model, chat length, and feature, refreshing every 5 hours against a weekly cap. Applies to every tier including Free; paid tiers get a multiplier (Plus 2x, Pro 4x, Ultra $100 tier 5x, Ultra $200 tier 20x). Practical effect: a short question no longer costs the same as a Video Overview, and heavy free-tier use can hit the cap faster on a complex prompt than the old count implied. Pricing tiers themselves are unchanged.
4. 2026-08-22 Freshness sweep, first full re-verification since the rename. Consumer pricing holds: Free, Plus $4.99 via Google AI Plus, Pro $19.99, Ultra $99.99-$200. What grew is the Studio panel — Infographics and Slide Decks joined Audio and Video Overviews, Study Guides, Flashcards and Quizzes, and a whole notebook can now be copied with its artifacts. The enterprise version went generally available inside Gemini Enterprise Business edition. Google's help centre now lives at support.google.com/gemininotebook, which settles the rename: NotebookLM is the old name, not an alternate one.
5. 2026-08-15 Price correction carried over from the Gemini sweep: the Google AI Plus tier NotebookLM rides on dropped from $7.99 to $4.99/mo ($49.99/yr) on June 8, 2026. Corrected here without a full re-verification of the rest of the entry — last_verified stays at July 24 until the next sweep reaches this tool.
6. 2026-07-24 Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook on July 16, 2026 (per Google's own announcement) — same product, new name and logo, existing links auto-redirect. The rename shipped with native code execution: the notebook can now write and run code against your sources for data analysis. Keeping the old name in parentheses until the new one settles in search.
7. 2026-07-09 Freshness sweep, real changes found: Gemini 3.5 is now the default model (June 8, 2026); 1M-token context opened to every plan including Free; Deep Research (open-web source building) and Cinematic Video Overviews (Ultra-only) shipped; a new $7.99 Plus tier sits below Pro; AI Ultra split into $99.99 and $200 tiers in May 2026. Softened the 'zero general-knowledge fallback' framing since Deep Research is now a real, if opt-in, open-web layer.
