?Is Google AI Pro worth $19.99?

If you're in Workspace daily, yes — the 1M context plus Gmail/Docs integration compounds. If you're not a Google-first operation, a Claude or ChatGPT subscription returns more.

?Is the $4.99 AI Plus tier enough?

For most operators, yes — as a second assistant. It buys Flash, a 128K context, and 400 GB of storage for less than a fifth of a Pro seat. From Oct 9, 2026, free is Flash-Lite only and Plus no longer includes 3.1 Pro. What it does not buy is the 1M-token context, and that window is the whole reason to run Gemini next to Claude or ChatGPT. Plus if Gemini is your backup. Pro if Gemini is the seat doing the reading.

?What's the difference between Gemini and NotebookLM?

Gemini is the general assistant; NotebookLM is a grounded research notebook that only answers from sources you load. Different jobs — many stacks carry both.

What changed

  1. NEWS SCAN: Gemini 4 Argon went broadly available Oct 13, 2026 (blog.google). AI Pro and Ultra get it in the Gemini app and AI Mode; paid API, AI Studio, Antigravity and Gemini Enterprise too. API intro rate $2/$10 per M doubles after Nov 30 (Reuters via Slashdot). Updated the Argon model note and the AI Pro plan note. Prices unchanged; not a full re-verification, so last_verified stays.
  2. Verified on gemini.google/subscriptions: prices hold (Free / Plus $4.99 / Pro $19.99 / Ultra $99.99 and $199.99). The Oct 9 change is live: Free now lists 3.5 Flash-Lite only. AI Pro now lists 3.8 Flash plus 3.1 Pro. AI Plus still shows 3.1 Pro on the page, but Google is removing it per account on emailed dates, so we treat Plus as Flash-Lite and Flash.
  3. NEWS SCAN: Google is changing model access on Oct 9, 2026. Free drops to Flash-Lite only, and AI Plus ($4.99) loses Gemini 3.1 Pro but keeps Flash-Lite and Flash. AI Pro and Ultra keep all three models. Every tier gets low/medium/high effort settings drawn from a compute-based usage allowance, and Ultra adds Deep Think and early Gemini 4 Argon access. Free and Plus plan notes and the Plus FAQ were updated. Prices are unchanged. The verdict holds, since it was always tied to Pro's 1M context. Reported by Engadget and Notebookcheck, among others.
