ChatGPT Pro 100 vs 200 vs 500: Which Tier After the October 30 Cut?

Most people should be on Pro 100. Pick Pro 200 only if you regularly run out of Pro 100’s allowance. Pick Pro 500 only if Codex speed costs you real money. OpenAI reset the ladder at DevDay on September 29. Pro 100 includes 5x the Plus usage allowance. Pro 200 drops from 20x to 10x on October 30. The new $500 tier includes 25x, and it is the only tier with Ultrafast.

The ladder after DevDay

Tier Price Usage vs Plus What’s unique
Pro 100 $100/mo 5x Entry to Pro
Pro 200 $200/mo 10x from Oct 30 (was 20x) GPT-6 Pro in chat drops from 200 to 100 messages a week
Pro 500 $500/mo 25x Ultrafast: up to 300 tokens/sec in Codex, up to 8x faster

The usage multipliers apply to ChatGPT Work and Codex, where GPT-6 Astra and the new GPT-6.1 Sol run. If you’re already on Pro 200, your current limits hold through October 29. You also get a one-time usage credit grant worth $2,500, and it expires December 31.

How to pick

Pro 100: you use Work and Codex daily but rarely hit the cap. Watch how often you hit the limit before moving up. If it’s less than once a week, stay here.

Pro 200: you hit Pro 100’s cap every week. Pro 200 doubles the allowance at double the price, so each unit of usage costs the same. You pay more only for more room. After October 30, that’s its whole case. Its old edge, 20x usage for $200, is gone.

Pro 500: long agent runs are what you’re waiting on. Ultrafast matters when a person is waiting on each Codex run: refactors, test loops, agent tasks that take minutes. Price it against hours. If faster runs save more than $300 a month of someone’s time over Pro 200, it pays. If you mostly chat, it won’t.

Do this before October 30

  1. Measure first. Use your $2,500 credit grant and the rest of October to see how often you hit the cap. Decide from that count, not from how busy the week feels.
  2. Downgrade if the 10x fits. If your October usage fits in 10x, stay on Pro 200 or move down to Pro 100. Paying for headroom you never use is a common AI overspend.
  3. Don’t stack deep seats. If Claude Max already holds your deep reasoning and coding work, a second top-tier Pro plan is duplication. Pick one deep seat and keep ChatGPT on Plus or Go.

Plus stays $20 and Go stays $8, and neither changed at DevDay. If you’re deciding whether to pay for ChatGPT at all, start with Is ChatGPT Plus still worth it?

A clearer stack beats a bigger stack. The tier should follow the workload.
